Day 62 – Race Day

Good morning! I’m so excited! Today is my first 5k ever!

4:55 Got up, took meds, drank water, went back to sleep.

6:10 Woke up, and ate breakfast. 1 banana, 1 slice whole wheat bread, 1T raw almond butter.

Breakfast, Day 62

8:00 Participated in The Great West Chase 5K. It felt pretty good throughout, but I really need to kick up the training for November. There’s definitely work to be done! My official time was 55:06 minutes, which is what I expected. My pace was 17:46/mile. I have to get 2 minutes off of that, which means I need to run for about 10-15 more minutes. I’ve got to be able to do that by January!!! I met fellow blogger, Stacy, and am happy to report that she finished in under an hour, too! Way to go, Stacy! My trainer walked with me. We did some running, not a lot, though. Honestly, I’m tired, and I need to really pick up the cardio workouts. I probably ought to be walking twice daily. The biggest problem I have with this is clothing, etc. Wearing 2 sets of workout clothes a day doubles my workout laundry, and 2+ showers a day, and possible 2 other outfits a day is crazy!!! I’ve got to figure out how to make this work so I don’t use it as an excuse. Seriously… so what if I have to do more laundry and take more showers… the end result is that I will get better each time I go out.

9:15 Got an apple and a water and headed home.

10:30 Snack. EAS Myoplex Nutrition Shake – banana cream. These are pretty good, and can be a meal replacement in a pinch. I really just don’t feel like eating at the moment, but I need to put some fuel into my machine.

12:30 Lunch. 6oz shrimp, Zatarain’s cocktail sauce.

Just in case the 5K wasn’t enough cardio for the day, I went with the family for a 2.2 mile hike around Lake Rogers today in the 88 degree heat. Yeah, that’s right. My feet are beat.

3:30 Snack. 4 whole wheat crackers, 1 wedge of Laughing Cow Baby Swiss cheese.

7:00 Dinner. 5oz chicken breast, 1c zucchini, 2 mixed baby greens, 1T evoo & balsamic vinegar.

Day 61

I am so excited about today! I am picking up my race packet for my first 5K tomorrow! Also, we have a family costume party to attend tonight, so I’ve got to get that all worked out today, too. It all starts at the Endocrinologist’s office early this morning. On with the day!

AM

7:00 Woke up, took meds, got ready for the day.

8:00 Breakfast. 1 EAS Myoplex banana cream shake, 1 pear.

8:30 Doctor appointment. 6-month checkup at Endocrinologist. Everything went great! My levothyroxine prescription was modified because my TSH level was high. This is directly proportional to my weight, so I will be getting this level checked every 3 months now that I’m losing weight. Because of my thyroidectomy, I will always have to take this medicine. The level also has nothing to do with your health or wellness; it is completely determined by weight. That’s why it’s so important to get your bloodwork checked regularly if you are taking medication during weight loss.

10:00 Brunch. Perkins. Border Grilled Chicken Omelette (calorie counter): Grilled chicken and Egg Beaters®, green peppers, onions, tangy Southwest sauce and sour cream. Served with a slice of dry toast and fruit. (No accompaniments) 410 calories, 7 g total fat, 39 g protein.

1:30 Snack. 2 slices Muenster cheese, 2 slices of Black Forest ham.

3:00 Took a short nap.

5:00 Picked up race packet for 5k tomorrow.

7:00 Dinner. Going to a Halloween Costume Party with the family. Going to try to make smart choices. It’s a good thing I have a race tomorrow morning.

9:00 Snack. 1c yogurt, 1/2c frozen blueberries.

Day 60

AM

7:15 Woke up, took meds, drank some water, stretched. I must be excited and nervous about the 5k coming up because I dreamed about it last night. My dream was all about preparing for it. I didn’t get to the actual race in the dream.

8:00 Weigh-in. Lost 6.4 lbs for a total of 34.4 lbs!!! I’m flying high right now! Had personal training for an hour. Beat my lap time for my cardio, then a full-body strength training, mostly working range of motion. It’s all getting better. I’m stronger, faster, leaner, and more limber than I’ve been in quite a while. Life is great.

9:00 Breakfast. Protein shake from Maggie.

11:00 Snack. 10 raw almonds, 1 small apple.

1:30 Lunch. Chick-fil-A. Southwest Chargrilled Salad, no dressing, medium Coke Zero.

5:30 Snack. 1/2 grapefruit, 10 raw almonds.

7:30 Treat at meeting. 1 miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

9:30 Dinner. 5oz chicken breast, 1 stalk celery, 1 wedge Laughing Cow Light Swiss cheese.

10:00 Went to bed. So tired.

6:00 Woke up, took meds, drank a glass of water, went back to bed.

9:45 Woke up, again. I got a good night’s sleep. I must’ve needed it.

10:00 Breakfast. 1 pear, 1/4c (uncooked) steel cut oats, 3 egg whites.

3:00 Lunch. Chick-fil-A. Chicken and Fruit salad with Berry Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. 3 pieces of candy corn.

5:00 Exercise. Walk/run for 30+ minutes. Lots of running in there, and it was 80+ degrees. Bleh. The kids were with me on their bikes. One is ready for BMX tracks (the 10 year old) and the 5-year old is trying to keep up and get over training wheels. Needless to say, I outwalked/outran the two of them the whole time. In fact, I would get so far ahead, then run back to encourage the little one. I put him on the road instead of the sidewalk and I could actually run next to him, and we were at the same pace! Yes! I’m doing physical activities with my kids… outside! We’re having fun together doing things!!! This is one of my goals: Family exercise/sports!!! Awesome!

I was so dang tired that after choir practice, I just skipped dinner right to my late snack. I wasn’t hungry and I need to sleep a lot tonight. Aunt Flo is here, too. Yay. Did I mention that I have a weigh-in tomorrow morning and training? Double yay.

Day 58

8:05 Woke up late. Was supposed to be at Maggie’s at 8. Boo. Words cannot describe how pissed off I was at myself, first, then everyone else, secondly. I need to get over it. It’s my own damn fault I overslept. I was so tired last night that fell asleep before I set my alarm. Dammit!!!! I took my meds, then hustled to Maggie’s.

8:30 Personal training session with Maggie. Today was tough. After two cardios yesterday, my body was dragging, plus I had penance for eating popcorn, pizza, and beer on Saturday. I’m exhausted.

9:30 Breakfast. Protein smoothie from Maggie, 1/4c (uncooked) steel cut oats, 1/2 peach.

1:30 Doctor appointment. Bloodwork results. Everything – perfect! Seriously. Well, my thyroid level was high because I’m losing weight and my meds are too much, but I’m seeing the endocrinologist on Friday and he’ll adjust that. Whoopee! My cholesterol numbers were ridiculous! Blood pressure was perfect, everything… perfect! That’s right, people…. Diet and exercise. Imagine that! After all that, the doctor gave me my medical clearance finally to participate in my fitness program with Maggie. It’s only taken me 2 months to do it, but it’s done!

2:30 Lunch. 1/2c brown rice, 1c zucchini, 4oz chicken breast.

5:00 Snack. 1/2c low-fat cottage cheese, 1/2 frozen strawberries.

7:30 Dinner. 4oz chicken breast, 1c sugar snap peas, 2c mixed baby greens salad, 1T evoo & balsamic vinegar.

9:30 Snack. 1c plain, non-fat yogurt, 1/2 frozen blueberries.

Day 57

7:30 Woke up, took meds, stretched.

8:00 Exercise. Walked/jogged 50 min. for about 2.5 miles. Started 30-day Shred, but wasn’t feeling the love. Needed to eat breakfast and get ready for today’s activities.

9:15 Breakfast. 1/4c (uncooked) steel cut oats, 1/2 raw peach, sliced, 1 scoop protein powder.

12:00 Lunch. Taco Bell. 1 fresco soft taco, 1 fresco bean burrito. I’m so weak. Been so busy, tired, too much to do. I wasn’t prepared today. I thought my new eating plan started tomorrow. All of my previous plans have started on Monday, so I was caught off guard last night (late) when I learned that it started today. I was unprepared, and that’s why I ended up at Taco Bell eating crap. I figured that it probably helped me because I did that BEFORE I went grocery shopping. I’m pretty sure I would’ve bought Halloween candy if I had been ravenous. I do have all of my groceries for the week, so I need to spend some time this afternoon getting everything ready for the week.

5:00 Snack. 3 bite-size pieces of Halloween candy. I know. This day sucks, bigtime.

8:30 Dinner. Back on track. 5oz chicken breast, 1c zuccini, 1/2c tomato, some garlic, Pam cooking spray.

1:00 Went to see the Metropolitan Opera’s Aida (Live in HD) at the movie theater. I ate a bag of popcorn and drank a huge Diet Coke. It was 4 hours long with 2 intermissions and I didn’t bring snacks with me. I patronized the theater and followed the rules. The opera was AWESOME!

7:30 Dinner. Date night with husband at the Mellow Mushroom. I got a microbrew sampler and drank 3 out of 5 mini-beers, and we ordered a medium “House Special” pizza to share. I ate 2 pieces (1/3 of the pizza). I was full with 1 piece, but did I stop? No. I was so weak, and felt giddy with my mini-beers. I learned that I am a total drinking lightweight once again. That is great news. Seriously. I rarely drink anymore at all, but with this weight loss and new eating plan, I really shouldn’t drink. I’m happy my husband was driving. (It was date night after all!) We rarely get these nights, but one kid’s at Pioneer Camp for scouts and the other’s at Grandma’s. Yeehaw! I’m hardcore this week leading up to my 5k on Saturday. Woohoo!

Day 54

8:00 Woke up, took meds, stretched, got back in bed.

11:00 Breakfast. 1/4c (uncooked) steel cut oats, 4 egg whites (3/4c egg beaters plain), 1T Walden Farms apple butter for my oatmeal.

4:30 Lunch. 6oz tilapia, 1/2c brown rice, 2c broccoli.

This is a terrible picture, but shows that I just toss the frozen tilapia, cooked brown rice, and fresh broccoli in a bowl, cover it with press ‘n’ seal wrap, and microwave it for 5-6 minutes and let it sit for about 5 minutes. This is the easiest way to prepare my meals, and I can stick with my plan. Usually it’s in Gladware, but I don’t have to take it anywhere today.

Day 53

7:30 Woke up, took meds, stretched, drank water.

8:00 Personal training session. I’m going down to 2 days/week for a while, so my 2 training sessions will be full-body strength training. I will be on my own for cardio, and I think that’s okay. I can handle that part of it.

9:00 Breakfast. Smoothie by Maggie, 1 medium banana.

10:15 Exercise. 45-minute walk/run. I’m getting closer to my 16-minute/mile goal pace! I’m up to nearly 50% jogging. I do have a hotspot on the ball of my right foot now, though. I think it’s time for some new shoes before next week. Ugh. More $$$.

3:30 Snack. 1.5 scoops protein powder.

7:00 Dinner. 3.5oz ground sirloin, 5oz green beans. Cracker Barrel with mother-in-law. This was a surprise. I texted Maggie to get her advice. I had spicy grilled catfish, dry (no butter/oil, etc.) It came with 3 sides, so I thought maybe green beans, turnip greens, and a salad… right. This is Cracker Barrel, people. The green beans and turnip greens both had bacon and bacon fat in them, so I chose a BIG salad with onions and tomatoes for my 3 sides with oil & vinegar on the side. This turned out to be a great dinner. I ate too much, but I didn’t have any carbs worth mentioning (maybe a whole tomato on the salad.) It was good! Go me!

We had a terrific family dinner out with my wonderful mother-in-law, and I managed to stay on track. Woohoo! I ate way too much, though. On the way home, we stopped by the hospital to see my dad. He’s doing great!

I am looking forward to higher calories starting Sunday. Also going to 6 meals/day. I guess I’ll have to wake up earlier so I can fit all of that in!
